We examined motives for adopting and maintaining yoga practice in a national survey of yoga practitioners (360 yoga students, 156 yoga teachers). Both students and teachers adopted yoga practice primarily for exercise and stress relief, but reported many other reasons, including flexibility, getting into shape, and depression/anxiety relief. Over 62percent of students and 85percent of teachers reported having changed their primary reason for practicing or discovering other reasons; for both, the top changed primary reason was spirituality. Findings suggest that most initiate yoga practice for exercise and stress relief, but for many, spirituality becomes their primary reason for maintaining practice.

A unified model of human motivation has been recently introduced that integrates all prior “mini-theories” of motivation into a single, symmetrical model based on first principles: four life domains crossed by three levels of attainment, resulting in 12 discrete motivations. Evidence from a series of studies using a novel image-based method is used to test structural hypotheses derived from a unified model of human motivation. The studies employ large samples (810n to 986n) of working adults who conducted a time-constrained image-based exercise to measure the relative presence or absence of different emotional needs. These studies provide support for the theoretical model, suggesting that there is substantial heuristic and practical value in a structured framework of motivating needs.Findings suggest that our theoretical model reflects deep interrelationships between discrete types of human motivation, and by linking specific measures to a comprehensive model of human motivation, researchers can have confidence that they have adequately measured the motivation construct.

Healing motivation is a force that drives patients to take action to return to health. One way to increase the motivation of the patient's healing is to provide spiritual services, namely spiritual therapy. Many studies have shown that spiritual activity can increase a person's motivation and adaptation when experiencing pain as found in some of these studies on Spirituality from the results of existing research, by Karina Dinda Kinasih Aries Wahyuningsih, about the role of spiritual assistance in elderly patients in the Adult Inpatient Installation. The majority of Kediri Baptist Hospitals are good, namely 69 respondents (90%). The motivation for healing in elderly patients at the Adult Inpatient Installation of Baptist Hospital Kediri is a strong majority, namely 72 respondents (90%). Spiritual experiences experienced by patients studied by Fitriani Mailani with the title Spiritual Experiences in Chronic Kidney Disease undergoing Hemodialysis, where researchers explore spirituality in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. The data was obtained through interviews with respondents, so that several themes were obtained, namely getting closer to God, support from the closest people, having high hopes for recovery, and accepting sincerely the illness they suffered, and having high hopes for recovery, such as trying non-medical treatment, believing miraculously and always pray for healing. The difference between spirituality and religiosity nursing problems in type-2 diabetes mellitus patients is directed at how nurses understand the concepts of spirituality and religiosity. Research by Ilhamsyah who looked at the relationship between the implementation of spiritual nursing and the spiritual satisfaction of hospital patients showed a significant relationship between the implementation of spiritual nursing and the spiritual satisfaction of patients with a significance level of P = 0.033. And several other studies say that the healing rate for patients with spiritual/spiritual assistance is quite high, so it is very important for hospitals to provide and determine the existence of spiritual assistance teams from various interfaith religions to provide motivation and spiritual needs of patients in accordance with the rights and obligations obtained in hospital services.

The jury remains out about the bottom-line relevance of organisational spirituality. This article reviews the arguments made thus far, using those sources most commonly cited as providing 'evidence' that organisational spirituality adds value to the bottom line. Having collated the evidence, this article offers some observation about the robustness of this existing 'business case'. It then offers some preliminary conclusions on the literature review, examining the merits of pursuing a 'business case' in this field and identifying some specific questions for future research.

The prolific and increasing number of academic studies concerned with spiritual tourism echoes humans' enduring quest for spirituality through travel and the entanglement of many destinations in this unique form of social activity. Yet, what we know about spiritual tourism remains equivocal and unsynthesized. This critical review, followed by a thematic analysis offers a comprehensive and rigorous overview of the nexus between spirituality and tourism. It codifies how contemporary researchers understand, theorize and study this social phenomenon, allowing us to provide an in-depth comprehension and synthesis of spiritual tourism. The significance of this study rests in its scope and capacity to inform tourism scholars working in the fields of sociology, management, psychology, and theology.

Understanding how and why entrepreneurs decide to pursue one venture as opposed to another has managed to elude entrepreneurship researchers. Of late, there has been a renewed interest in the role and importance of intuition to the entrepreneur. Two recent publications concerning electrophysiological evidence of intuition (McCraty et al., 2004a-b) and the relationship of motivations with spiritual intelligence (Zohar and Marshall, 2000) suggest the need to evaluate how we access our deepest meanings, values, purposes and highest motivations in recognising opportunities. This has shed some light on how we interpret meaning in the world around us and its impact on decision-making. This paper argues that entrepreneurs use all three levels of intelligence: namely intellectual, emotional and spiritual intelligence. Using intuition and value driven motivations, the serial entrepreneur can change a business-as -usual paradigm to a creative business of high growth and spiritual worth. It will be shown that the heart autonomic nervous system is involved in the processing and decoding of intuitive information.

Personality integration has been related to individual well-being. The present study focused on the combined influence of personality integration through the personal-striving goal construct, active-passive approach toward achieving one's goals, and inner resources on wellbeing. Specific attention was given to how this process works out in two culturally different countries: the Netherlands and Spain. Results indicated that goal integration, passive thinking, active thinking, and vitality were higher in the Netherlands compared to Spain. It was also shown that inner resources combined with active thinking to function as a buffer for the possible negative effects on vitality. Results were similar in both countries, a finding that provides an indication for possible cross-cultural generalization of this process. The overall results present active-passive thinking combined with inner resources as an influential factor in the relation between goal integration and well-being.

Abstract Issues Serotonergic psychedelics (SP) are psychoactive substances that produce unique sets of subjective effects, such as hallucinatory experiences. This systematic review is the first to summarise which motives for SP use have been assessed in medical, psychological, sociological and ethnological research across different types of SPs and across cultural backgrounds. Findings on use motives can be especially important in the context of harm reduction. Approach We searched academic databases (Medline, Web of Science and Embase) and included publications if they were peer‐reviewed and written in English, German, Spanish or Dutch. We analysed which type of motives were reported, comparing motives from quantitative and qualitative reports, and investigating associations between motives and year of publication, specific SPs and specific participant populations. Key Findings Our search in November 2020 resulted in 30,257 unique articles of which 37 were included in the analysis. Across all studies, the most common motive for SP use was the desire to expand awareness (78% of included studies), followed by coping (67%) and enhancement (57%) motives. There were no statistically significant associations between reported motive and type of report (quantitative vs. qualitative), year of publication (range: 1967–2020), type of SP and participant population. Implications If SP‐related harms are to be reduced, harm‐reduction services could focus on providing non‐pharmacological ways of fulfilling an expansion motive. Additionally, future studies should aim to assess specific motives for specific SPs. Conclusions SPs are most commonly used to expand (self‐)knowledge, promote spiritual development or for curiosity, notably across different SP user populations including patients.
